Born Jack Hoggan in Methil, Scotland in 1951, Jack Vettriano, an adaptation of his mother’s maiden name, has enjoyed huge success with the public becoming known as “The People’s Painter”.
Leaving school at 16 to train as a mining engineer locally in the heart of the Fife coalfields, Jack Vettriano was given a set of watercolor paints by a girlfriend for his 21st birthday which had the effect of changing his life completely.
Teaching himself to paint in his spare time, there is now enormous interest in Jack Vettriano’s works with sell-out solo exhibitions around the world.
The Singing Butler is Jack Vettriano’s best selling work and this painting made £744,500 at auction in 2004.
At the present time, Jack Vettriano works in his studios in Kirkcaldy, Scotland and London, England. He also has a home in Nice, France.
